Passing

Must read

Dr. Kashiraj Pandey

Fairly giant,
Mighty and dreadful;
an uninvited visitor that
precedes life, followed everyone
from the womb, hammers on the door,
so sudden!
Doesn’t fall amiss and has no-need
to get out of our sheltered seats as a mere courtesy
upon its arrival; not wasting a moment
in a flash, it departs!
No one, one never lived through that
only asked for lives to slow down and settle well
to live in the present in nature’s way; valuing
every moment that traps all living beings within
the human condition, somewhere around everyone’s
roundabout route of life to transition: Making rooms
for others who are yearning to arrive here and live their turn.

[Dr. Pandey teaches English at the Kathmandu University School of Arts.]
