Kabita Rai Tops National Poetry Competition

Kabita Rai of Bhojput district has been announced winner of this year’s National Poetry Competition, organized by Nepal Academy. According to a press release issued by Academy’s Member Secretary Jagat Prasad Upadhyaya on Wednesday, poet Rai was awarded the honor for her poem “Deshko Naksa”. The first runner’s up, as mentioned in the press released is Amrita Smriti of Dhading, whose poem “Dadhelopachhi pani basanta aauchha” had been shortlisted for the recital. Sabita Baral of Taplejung, Niranjana Kumari Chand of Bardiya and Prakash Silwal of Nuwakot have been declared to have won the third place. A panel of judges, coordinated by Academy’s Poetry Department Chief Prof. Dr. Hemnath Poudel, consisted of two other members: Dhruva Madhikarmi and Dr. Bindu Sharma.

Unlike in the previous year, the virtual recital also featured poets from eight other countries, besides Nepal.

Academy sources say, the winners will be conferred the award on a suitable day after the COVID situation improves.
