The School of Education, Kathmandu University, has started a fortnight-long series of academic presentations from scholars from various locations in South Asia. Coordinated by Associate Professor Dr Tikaram Poudel, the event revolves around the general theme “Qualitative Research, Current Trends in Applied Linguistics, and English in Contemporary South Asian Society.” The event, launched formally on Sunday, will last until 9 January 2020, KU sources said.
Speaking on the inaugural session on Sunday, Prof. Mahesh Nath Parajuli, Dean of the KU School of Education stressed on the need for such regular academic exchanges to share one another’s knowledge with a larger audience. Dr. Laxman Gnawali, Assistant Dean, highlighted KU’s concentration on various disciplines and faculties to ensure a better amalgamation of knowledge from various disciplines. Dr. Poudel, who coordinates the series, cited the need to turn to local and indigenous sources of knowledge as the primary motivation towards the formulation of this series of lecturer in the present form.
The series is scheduled to feature scholars from various universities and research institutions all over South Asia, specializing in a plethora of disciplines and subjects. According to Dr. Poudel, scholars scheduled to speaker in various sessions of the series include Usha Kiran Regmi from Norway, Dr. Arzuman Ara and Dr. Amenla Changkija from the English and Foreign Language University, Shillong Campus, Mr. Ramesh Sharma from Don Bosco University Guwahati, Dr Anupriya Singh from SKIT, Jaipur, Dr Avakash Jadhav Head, Associate Professor at St. Xavier’s College, University of Mumbai, linguist Dr. Geeta Ajit, Dr. Ramkishen Bhise and Dr. Shiva Shankar Mukharjee from India, Binod Prasad Pant and Dr. Suresh Gautam from the School of Education Kathmandu University, Dr Tafseer Ahmed Khan from the Jinnah University Karachi Pakistan, and Dr. Bhawana Pokharel and Mr. Mahesh Paudyal from Tribhuvan University.
On the opening day, Dr. Anila Jha, a doctorate from the Kathmandu University of Education presented her lecture on “My Experience as a Qualitative Researcher.” The lecture was followed by a session of question and answer.
It is a trend on the part of the Kathmandu University School of Education to bring scholars from all over the world together, physically and virtually, and ensure knowledge sharing. The way Kathmandu University handles researches and knowledge sharing is widely acclaimed, and considered one of the best in South Asia.
