Self-Confidence

Must read

Anshu Shrestha

“The most beautiful and precious ornament a person can wear is self-confidence. Self-confidence is not about, “They will like me, and instead it is I am fine if they don’t.”

We all know that self-confidence is trust and belief in your own skill and abilities. It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your dreams. It is not something that you are born with or taught in school but it is self-taught. It is something that needs to be developed internally and gradually.

Self-confidence is you are the best version of yourself. Everyone admires self-confident person. We may envy them a little. Self-confidence people seems at ease with themselves and their work. They know what they want. They invite trust and inspire confidence in others. They believe in struggling, failing and winning. These are the attractive characteristics of self-confidence people.

One cannot achieve his/her goals without self-confidence. The more self-confident you become, the more you will be able to calm the voice inside you that says, “I can’t do it”, because self-confidence allows you to stand up for yourself and reach your potential. Let’s take an example: of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa. She is the first Nepali woman to step on the summit of K2 and Everest as well. She was interested in adventures. She dated to dream and reach the top of the world, despite of all barriers, it is her self-confidence that made her dream come true.

Self-confident people set realistic expectation and goals which are achievable. But many people face the presumption, for eg: You are going to an auditory speech competition and you know that your opponent is very strong. You will be nervous and assume that you will lose. This only brings negativity and hinder your self-confidence.

When you lack self-confidence it holds you back from portraying and raising your opinion. You spend more time thinking and worrying about what other people are doing rather than focusing on your own capability.

When you have self-confidence people will trust you. Like in an interview, a confident candidate are selected because the interviewer trust them and their words.

Boosting your self-confidence means developing good habits that will improve you. Feeling good about your past achievement and setting yourself achievable goals for the future help you to build and groom your self-esteem. As an e.g.: we all know about Helen Keller. The globally renowned American author and motivational speaker with and extraordinary journey. She proved herself as a confident lady, overcoming all her disabilities.

Not going too far, we can have ample examples like; our own school Koshi St. James where confident team of very talented teacher surmounted endless of obstacles and challenges, that now it is one of the finest school and college of eastern Region in Nepal.

Last but not least, if you want to be successful you need to develop your self-confidence. Real self-confidence comes from self-awareness. If you believe in yourself, the whole world will believe in you because perception is reality.
