St. Xavier’s College Organizes a Webinar

September 17: St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar organized a webinar on the theme “Humanism, COVID Pandemic and Writing” on Thrusday. The webinar was centered  on how writing and literature could help people cope with the pendamic and the anxeity thereof.

Emiment writer and critic Professor Dr. Sanjeev Uprety was the the focal speaker. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Uprety stressed the need to dismantle all  kinds of heirarchies to ensure the evolution of a just society.  “Humanism cannot prevail in the post-pandemic world, unless people negate all kinds of hierarchies in social and environmental pyramids,”  he said.  He added, “This situation where every personal and institutional relationship reigns in doubt. has its own crisis, but we must try to decentre teh humans in all kind of divisions to hold everyone together.”

A question-answer session moderated by another lecturer of the College, Mr. Swarnim Raj Lamsal, succeeded the address.

The program started with an introduction of the guest by Mr. Jileshan Shah, a lecturer. The event was attended by teachers and students of various faculties. Talking to The Gorkha Times, one of the organizers, Mr. Shah said, “Such kinds of programs help to fill a vacuum that has evolved among learners as a result of this pandemic. Webinars of this kind are expected to bridge the innovative minds of the young thinkers with influential minds of the speakers.”

 “This is a part of a series of weekly webinars organized by the College in order to engage students and teachers in academic activities during this challenging time,” said an introductory leaflet issued by the organizers.
