A book titled Salhesh and Other Village Deities by senior writer and cultural expert Dr. Ram Dayal Rakesh has been published. The book was launched by Chief guest Prof. Jagman Gurung, Vice Chancellor of Nepal Academy, amidst a virtual event on Sunday. Other speakers who attended the event and placed their viewpoints on the book were Prof. Prem Khatri, Prof. Chandreshor Mishra, Ram Bharos Kapari and Deepak Chaudhary. The book was published on the occasion of golden jubilee year of the author’s birth.
Prof. Ram Dayal Rakesh taught at the Department of Hindi, Tribhuvan University. A folklorist, writer, critic and translator of high repute, he is also the winner of the prestigious Fukuoka Prize from Japan. He is also the former Chief of the Department of Culture at Nepal Academy. His contributions towards the promotion and preservation of Nepali culture, especially that of the Mithila region in the south plains of Nepal have been commendable. According to critics, his recent books is yet another commendable contribution from Dr. Rakesh.
