Aamai Pyaro Ghamai Pyaro, a travelogue for children by senior essayist Ghana Shyam Rajkarnikar was discussed in the capital on Friday. Organized by Bal Wangmaya tatha Anusandhan Kendra, Nepal, the event was chaired by the Kendra’s chairperson Pramod Pradhan. Renowned travel essayist Prateek Dhakal was the chief guest.
Critics Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Dahal, Ananta Wagle and Mahesh Paudyal expressed their viewpoints on the book and lauded the author for abridging his adult-oriented collection Yatra Americako Maya Nepalko for kids. They said it was a laudable move towards enriching Nepali travel writing for children, a genre lagging much behind other genres. Chief Guest Prateek Dhakal urged writers to explore and foreground internal strength and beauty of Nepal alongside their reflections on foreign tours.
Addressing the gathering at its chair, Pramod Pradhan outlined the brief history of Nepali travel writing for children and commented it to be quite ‘scanty’. He expressed the hope that Rajkarnikar’s entry into this genre would inspire writers enter this field with more commitment. Author Rajkarnikar narrated his personal history as a writer and thanked the critics for encouraging him.
Writer Bijaya Raj Acharya had conducted the hour-long discussion.
