Poet Vaishnav Passes away at 97

Renowned poet, dramatist and actor Shyamdas Vaishnav has passed away on Friday in Kathmandu. He was 97.

Born in 1924 in Lazimpat of Kathmandu, Mr. Vaishnav was inspired to get into writing after he came into contact with poet Devkota during his teens. His fame as a writer and artist rests on his works Raattko Ansu, Antardhwani, Patkar and several other poetic and dramatic works for adult and children. He also directed plays by Govinda Bahadur Gothale and Bijaya Malla, and acted for tele-serials like Doko, Sat-asat, Satyako Mahatwa, Ijjat ki Beijjat etc.

Mr. Vaishnav was a member of the Academic Assembly of Nepali Academy.
