Two Poems by Sarif Ullah

Silence

Bad time bell on the lips of the car
The smell of autumn comes from the body of the wind
Today a group of lovers dance at noon
In the hot sun …

Lazy afternoon sleep on the back of a cat
Then fly on horse hooves
Wake up again in the air.

In the passenger line at the evening station
Mechanical voice comes by suppressing noise
Match the throat to the voice of the night
Silence descends.

Window Grill

The window grille is very old – old
Many of my old memories are associated with it
Signs of smallpox in rusty cover in breath air
Yet the tenth light keeps the light inside the house.
My only recourse is to stand
Companion four feet wide inert grill
As far as I can see the world outside,
standing at the top of the old window
I think I spent my life in an old age home.

The boy’s shape in the dread of childhood is the star
The Harijan pair is lost in the field while searching
Gollachute, or in the cool water of a pond full of water hyacinth
Running, blowing dust on both feet, riding a bicycle.

The tired grill can’t carry me anymore
I can’t stand it either.
