At the Center

Must read

Sharad Ritu

She was sitting on one bank
And I on the other;
In the middle was a rose plant.

She tried to steal a look at me
And I at her
The flowers that tossed in the occult plane of beauty
Tried to shield us from each other.

I stood from my place and cut the rose plant off
Making the way between our hearts clear.

For ages and ages
None of the people who kept this route ever said:
There was a rose plant at this spot;
Where could it have gone?
