Still Standing

Suraj Raj Keshari

Life passed by millennial falls
And hundreds of decades, of springs and all
The storm tried to root me up
Yet, I am here
Since the humble beginning of the world
Still standing
Strong and undefeated
In my days, months, years, and decades that passed
I have grieved
The losses of my offspring; the branches that were my parts
Despite trying hard, they could not stand the strikes of tropical storms
And leafless branches that you see now, naked
Were full of green life, someday
And my body then, had no scars, that I sustain now
Decades I endured, with all of these wounds, pains and scars
Though it took away my loved ones
It made me stronger with time
Granted me power to dwell millennial falls
That is why
I am here
Still standing
Strong and undefeated
