Three Strokes

Anil Koirala

Repentance

You hark, oh the committed voyager
Out of home to sow bright light
By fraying all dark curtains!

You have set out to claim high peaks of dreams.
Did the horizon ever tell you—
The steps, on your way
Were built by the one
Whom you left a thousand miles behind?

Falsehood

I buried the truth underneath my chest
After putting a blindfold
Around the eyes of God

It reached
Neither the underworld
Nor the sky!

Lips that utter the truth
Often make me shudder these days

Argument
From a state of unconsciousness
I faintly remember my husband’s argument
In favor of getting the developing fetus aborted

My grown-up son
Who kicked by womb and came into the world
Waits for decades
Even to stare a couple of words in my defense
Remembering his placental past!
