Two fragments

Som Nath Ghimire

Life

Long ago, in my dream
a youth was running restlessly
and
I was frozen but agog under a dark tree!

Where was he running?
It echoed from the far off brooks
he wanted to be taller,
climbing up the trees
taller than the peaks
Today in my dream
along the very roads,
an old man was coming gently
I was still frozen but agog under the dark tree!

Where was he going?
It echoed from behind,
woven in the language of secret seas,
life is taller than the trees
taller than the peaks!

The D dreams of My Twenties

Oh my dead dreams!
in mine youth
a mad dreamer was I of thine symphony
Whilst asleep I was
mine reed fell from these black lips
In
falling
they broke into p i e c e s
Such fleeting was the decade of mine madness
oh my dead dreams
Forgive me!
in collecting the p i e c e s of mine reed,
I forgot to build the graves for thee!
