Bhairawi Bhugol Wins National Poetry Competition

Poet Bhairawi Bhugol has been declared first in the National Poetry Festival 2020, organized by Nepal Academy. According to a press release issued by Academy’s Member Secretary Prof. Jagat Prasad Upadhyaya soon after the completion of the recital on Monday, Bhugol, hailing from Nuwakot, was declared winner for her poem “Nepaliko Geet”. With this, she is entitled for a gold medal and cash prize.

Similarly, Prajawal Adhikari from Lamjung was declared second for his poem “Sankalpa”. Three poets shared the third place, and they are Ganesh Prasad Khatiwada from Solukhumbu, Devaki Abhilashi from Dolakha and Rejina Apagain from Tehrathum. The winners were declared from a list of 30 poets shortlisted for the event.

Bhugol, who bagged the first place, is a published author. Her anthology Aswikrit Salinta, published by Shikha Books, is in the market. She is also a literary activist, and has been running online poetry events for several months, bringing together poets, critics and poetry lovers on virtual forums together.
