Mount Everest, world’s highest mountain peak, has been newly measured. Accordingly to the new measurement conducted by Nepal in collaboration with China, the newly determined height is stated to be 8848.86 meters. Foreign Minister Pradip Gyawali made this announcement in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The new height revised the earlier height, 8848 m, that had been determined in 1849. This is the first time Nepal became a part of the measuring team, the other member being China.
Besides Everest, Nepal is home to eight of the fourteen mountain peaks taller than eight thousand meters. It is believed that with the development of Nepal’s own measurement techniques, roads to the re-assessment of other high peaks have ultimately opened.
