Bhairav Awards, established in honor of the renowned satirist and poet late Bhairav Aryal, has been announced for the year 2020. According to a press release issued by the Award Trust, the Bhairav Award will be conferred on senior satirist Ram Kumar Pandey, while Bhairav Talent Award will go to comedian Rajaram Poudel. The awards carry a sum of one hundred thousand and fifty thousand rupees respectively, besides customary citations.
The Award Trust made the announcement in Kathmandu on Wednesday, endorsing the recommendations made by a panel of judges with senior author and journalist Vijay Chalise as its coordinator, and professor and critic Dr. Khagendra Luitel and satirist Laxman Gamnage as members. The Trust’s Secretary Basant Rijal announced that the award ceremony will be organized on an appropriate date, considering the inconveniences posed by COVID-19 pandemic. The awards, established in 1987, were announced once in every two years in the past. They will, however, be announced every year from now, Secretary Rijal said.
