War

Must read

Mahesh Karki Kshtiz

When I was at the other edge of agony
They asked, “How are you doing?”
I said, “My joy has no bounds;
What else do I need?”
They appeared grim.

I reckoned:
Man is most deeply saddened
When he hears of others’ well-being.

I only know
That the snake from Shiva’s neck
Has twined around my throat.

Who would be the one to laugh
In the upcoming war?
I?
The snake?
Or else the people
Who ask about my wellbeing?
