NRNA discusses literature and language issues

Language and Literature Forum of the Non-Resident Nepalese Association organized a discussion on “Promotion and Expansion of Language and Literature among the Nepalese Diaspora,” on the occasion of the North America Regional Meet on Saturday. The seminar was attended by many distinguished guests from various walks of life including linguists Professor Mukunda Sharan Upadhyaya, Dr. Amar Giri, Professor Dr. Narayan Prasad Adhikari; Littérateur Lokmani Paudel, NRN founder and former president cum writer Jiba Lamichane, novelist Neelam Karki Niharika, the first migrant Nepali writer to win Madan Puraskar, emigrant writer Sita Pandey, authors Dr. Govinda Singh Rawat, Krishna Lamichane and Mukti Gautam, among others. The event was chaired by Mukti Gautam whilst it was coordinated by Gopi Krishna Kafle, a member of the NRN ICC. The event primarily focused on challenges and prospects being observed while developing and promoting Nepalese emigrants’ writings. The speakers deliberated on how to bring uniformity in the Nepali language, translate Nepali literature into English and other languages, train second-generation migrants in Nepali language and literature and highlight the roles of the NRNs in alleviating the unscientific ways in the study of various aspects of Nepali grammar. “Such discussion sessions are crucial for the growth of the Nepalese communities residing abroad,” a note released by the organizers to the media said.
